The brief

Freixenet wanted each country to get its own language, legal pages and product range, and still look like one brand.

What I built

The agency's design team set the look. I turned it into an HTML prototype first, then a WordPress multisite with a handful of country variants. Later we split that multisite into separate single sites, one per market, all running the same theme. Each one has the product catalog, the brand story pages and a redirect layer that sends visitors to their country.

Features

  • Same theme running on 18 market sites (Spain, Germany, Japan, China, Mexico and others)
  • Products as a custom post type with categories
  • Story pages from the design team (timeline, sustainability, Art of Cava, recipes) built as reusable templates
  • Visit the winery and where to buy pages for each market
  • Country redirect between the global site and the local ones
  • Copy, menus, legal links and forms configured per country

Challenges

Problem. Every market needed its own language and legal copy, but nobody wanted eighteen different designs.

Solution. One template driven theme. Anything country specific lives in content fields and config, not in the code.

Problem. In one multisite, every country had to ship on the same day.

Solution. We split it into one site per country, so a market can deploy without waiting for the others.

Problem. People kept landing on the wrong country.

Solution. The theme checks where the visitor is and redirects, with the global site as the fallback.

Takeaway

Freixenet later handed the sites to the countries themselves. The Polish one still runs this theme.
